Over the River Poem & Copywork

November 11, 2015 By: amyswandering9 Comments

FREE Over the River Copywork

Most of us are familiar with the “Over the River and Through the Wood” song, but did you know that it has twelve verses? Written by Lydia Maria Child in 1844,  this festive poem is also known as “A New-England Boy’s Song About Thanksgiving Day”.

I’ve created two printable freebies using this poem and several vintage works of art featuring sleighs.

One is just the artwork and poem:

And the other is the artwork, poem, and lines for copywork:

I Am Thankful ABCs

I created these Thanksgiving activity pages for my Bible classes that I teach on Wednesday nights. They are divided up into preschool, K-2nd, and 3rd-5th, so I made three different levels.

I read these verses (around the edges of the page) with the two older classes and we discussed why thankfulness is so important in our Christian walk. The upper elementary kids came up with something to be thankful for using letters of the alphabet. The lower elementary kids drew or wrote theirs in the blank squares below the pics. I simply talked about the pictures with the preschoolers.

  • Psalm 105:1 – Expressing gratitude brings glory to God
  • Philippians 4:6 – Do not worry. Instead, thankfully bring your needs before God.
  • Colossians 1:3 – Thank God for the people in your life.
  • Colossians 3:17 – Do everything in the name of Jesus, giving thanks to God.

I challenged the kids to offer up a prayer of Thankgiving each day until Thanksgiving using their chart. Feel free to download yours below. For best result, choose the Fit to Page setting on your printer.

Thanksgiving Grocery Ad Math

November 4, 2015 By: amyswandering3 Comments

Thanksgiving Grocery Ad Math

The grocery ads are arriving chock-full of Thanksgiving yummies. I searched through them and created a Thanksgiving Grocery Ad Math Scavenger Hunt.

Find the price of each item in three different ads, then add all the items up to determine which store is the best bargain. Multiple items will need to be added together to match the listed quantities or measurements.

Little ones can do a scavenger hunt with one ad by just hunting for the items on the list.
